The present invention relates to a method for treatment of opiates using the opiate antagonist drug 17- (cyclopropylmethyl)-4,5-epoxy-3,14-dihydroxymorphinan-6- one, better known under the name Naltrexone, which attaches to the receptors thereof in the central nervous system, blocking the effects thereof. It is essentially characterized in that moderate doses, preferably increasing every 90 minutes, are administered to the patient needing detoxification, in association with a hypotensive drug such as 2,6-dichloro-N-2- imidazolidinylidenebenzenamine, known under the name clonidine, and sedatives if necessary; the initial dose must not exceed 0.5 mg and the final dose at the end of the first day of treatment must not exceed 4.5 mg, the total amount of naltrexone at the end of the first 24 hours being about 12.5 mg. On the second day of treatment the initial dose must be about 5 mg and increase until it reaches about 12.5 mg.
