A baking or roasting oven is provided with an electric circulating fan (6) located alongside the back wall (3) within the muffle (1). The fan (6) is encircled by a concentric heating element (7) which in turn is surrounded by a catalytic converter assembly (8) which permits a radial airflow via the grated (5) baffleplate (4). The catalyst is deposited as a coating on a porous sponge-like wire mesh independently supported and formed from an aluminium alloy or alternatively a foam ceramic of e.g. aluminium oxide or silicon carbide. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides high level of uniform catalytic action throughout working life due to efficient distribution and large surface area of catalyst. Has low resistance to air circulation and is superior to granular alternatives which reduce flow. Economic and easily installed.
