The hinge includes first (2) and second (3) shell members, which fit together in a male-female relationship. The first shell member includes a pair of hinge members (4,5) and a locking portion (11) which engages the internal wall of the second shell. The locking portion engages against the end of a spiral spring (10), and includes at least one integral projecting clip portion (16) which limits its axial movement relative to the second shell. The clip may alternatively be formed as a separate component engaging in a sliding fit with a head section of the locking portion. ADVANTAGE - Simple low-cost construction, allowing opening of spectacle arms beyond normal wearing position.
