A computer is used to create a database of mass spectrometry results taken from the work of masters. Unidentified works may then be identified by comparing mass spectrographs of samples taken from them under standard conditions with those stored in the computer. Other physical or chemical methods, such as chromatography can be used, but mass spectrometry of sub-microgram or even nanogram sensitivity is preferred. ADVANTAGE - Works of fine art may be identified with scientific precision.
