A printer paper pullout apparatus (10) is described. In its preferred embodiment, the pullout apparatus (10) includes a grasping mechanism (12), a capture mechanism (13) and a securing mechanism (14). The grasping mechanism (12) facilitates concurrent paper tray (26) and paper stack (20) movement from a printer feed zone (37). The securing mechanism (14) ensures proper paper gripping before the paper tray (26) can be released and extended from the printer feed zone (37). In addition, the grasping mechanism (12) is shaped and positioned on the paper tray (36) for ease of operator grip when manually extending the paper tray from the printer feed zone (37). <IMAGE>
