The package has a base (12) which has a generally flat form. On its upper face a positioning system is located for the product to be packaged. A top cover (14) is provided which encloses the product. It has a lateral face which engages with the positioning system. At its free edge a peripheral flange (34) is arranged to protrude from the cover. The flange is positioned parallel to the base and also engages with the positioning system. The base has a peripheral zone that is not covered by the flange. A sealing system (36) is attached to the cover flange and the peripheral zone of the base. This ensures a sealed mechanical joint between the two components. The package can be opened without having to be inverted. USE/ADVANTAGE - For foodstuffs such as cheese. Can be easily opened by the consumer and product presented on the package base. Allows automatic packaging.
