The invention relates to a lift installation provided with a lift cage which is connected to a support member in such a manner that it can rotate about a vertical axis of rotation, and with a helical rail and with wheel-like components which interact with the helical rail. Either the helical rail forms part of a stationary structure while the wheel-like components are connected to the support member, or the helical rail is attached to the support member and the wheel-like components are supported by a stationary structure. Drive means are provided, with the aid of which the support member can be set in rotation so as to move the support member up and down together with the lift cage. A centrifugal weight is connected to the support member. In the event of a certain rotational speed of the support member being exceeded, the centrifugal weight will move with respect to the support member, thus activating a brake mechanism. <IMAGE>
