Novel 4-R<4>-R<5>-2-Saccharinylmethyl aryl carboxylates of formula I <CHEM> prepared by reacting a 4-R<4>-R<5>-2-halomethylsaccharin with an arylcarboxylic acid in the presence of an acid-acceptor, compositions thereof and their use in the treatment of degenerative diseases are described.
