AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

A large internal combustion engine of the crosshead type with a cylinder diameter of up to 90 cm has the cylinders arranged in two V-shaped rows. The fixed main structure of the engine is divided into separate elements in the form of a bed plate (12) with a frame box (14) and a cylinder section (13) clamped together by means of stay bolts (26) of which at least two extend obliquely in relation to the median plane (29) of the engine. The partition faces between the separate structural elements are interlocked either by a geometrically defined locking determined by the course of the joining face or by means of actual locking means.
