The invention relates to the handling of plates such as those which cover the junction chambers in telephone networks, these plates lying within a peripheral rebate and including a plurality of anchoring points. The device comprises a lever arm (1) with a bearing point (8) at one end (10) and a hook (2) slung under the arm (1) some distance from this end. The hook (2) can pivot. The device thus allows quick and easy handling of the plates, first of all detaching them, the bearing point being positioned beyond them, then lifting them and shifting them, by repositioning the bearing point on them.
