In order to acquire data concerning the three-dimensional structure and/or the relative arrangement of teeth, a (negative) impression or a (positive) model of the teeth is cast without blowholes into a casting material, forming a block. The interface between the impression or the model and the casting material represents the surface of the teeth to be measured. The block is then eroded layer after layer in mutual parallel planes. The boundary line between the impression or the model and the casting material which thus results in each cutting plane is optodigitally detected. By associating the third coordinate, which corresponds to the position of each cutting plane, with both coordinates of the boundary line, the interface and thus the surface of the teeth is three-dimensionally represnted. A device and an impression tray for carrying out this process are also disclosed. |
