The apparatus simplifies the system structure by combining a PLC (programmable logic controller, 4) with a cutting monitoring unit. Other special monitor is unneccessary because reference data for various machine tools are set in the PLC. The apparatus comprises a power transformer (1) reducing the power variation value on a main shaft load by half; an A/D converter (2); photocouplers (3,3a) transfering the data from the A/D converter to input terminals of the PLC (4); decoders (5,5a,5b) decoding the output of the PLC (4); displays (6,6a,6b) displaying the main shaft load; an inverter (7) connected between the A/D converter (2) and the PLC (4) and starting the action of the A/D converter (2).
