The present invention relates to a method for producing a picture whose appearance changes as a result of lighting effects. This method is characterized in that a canvas bearing an artistic picture is placed on a frame so as to form one face of a box containing one or more light sources able to light the picture thus formed from behind. A pane of glass, which may be coloured, is placed between the light source and the canvas. This method enables a complete metamorphosis of the work to be achieved. The picture thus formed may be viewed equally well in a lit environment as in the dark.
