A cooling system for cooling a drive motor for shaft winches, whose drive motor is arranged in the rotating cable drum (1) of the shaft winch and is integrated with it, the stator (13) of the drive motor being mounted on a non-rotating shaft and the rotor poles of the drive motor being mounted on the internal circumference of the cable drum. The stator has two stator end walls (15, 16), the two of which are provided with an equal number of openings (17, 18) which are distributed uniformly over the circumference, lie on a circle around the longitudinal axis of the stator and are aligned with one another.
