Device for the heating and ventilation of the passenger compartment (cockpit) of a motor vehicle, comprising a cold-air transmission branch (16) and an air heating branch (18) which communicate with one another via a mixing zone (40) serving respectively a demisting (deicing) vent (42), ventilators (50) in the dashboard, and vents (66) at the lower part of the passenger compartment. A direct line (72) is provided, the inlet (74) of which penetrates in part into the outlet (32) of the air heating branch (18), and the outlet (76) of which is situated adjacent to a wall portion (20) delimiting the cold air transmission branch (16) and situated substantially opposite the outlet (32) of the air heating branch so as to mix the hot air coming from the air heating branch with mixed air coming from the mixing zone. <IMAGE>
