The X-ray appts. includes an emitter (1) which generates a beam (2) directed towards a receiver (3). An area is pre-defined on the receiver surface to collect the incident beam. A sensor (5) generates a signal when the beam hits the receiver outside the pre-defined area. The signal is transmitted to a control circuit (6) which can switch off the emitter power supply.
