An injectable monophase hydrogel is provided and is made of a reaction mixture of a high molecular weight hyaluronic acid and a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid.

1. An injectable composition prepared by a process comprising the steps of:
providing a first hyaluronic acid salt product; providing a second hyaluronic acid salt product; mixing the first hyaluronic acid salt product and second hyaluronic acid salt product to obtain a reaction mixture having an intrinsic viscosity of less than 1900 ml/g; cross-linking the mixture in an aqueous solvent in the presence of an effective and non-excessive amount of at least one cross-linking agent; and homogenizing the crosslinked mixture to obtain the injectable composition.
