A process for preparing the compound of the formula I which comprises treating a compound of the formula II wherein R2 is hydrogen, CN or CO2R1 and R1 is hydrogen or (C1-C6)alkyl with a reducing agent with the proviso that when R2 is CN or CO2R1 and R1 is (C1-C6)alkyl the product of the reduction is heated with an acid. Compounds of formula II wherein R2 is CN or CO2R1 and R1 is (C1-C6)alkyl or R2 is hydrogen and R1 is (C1-C6)alkyl or hydrogen. The compound of formula VII R1 is (C1-C6)alkyl. The compound of formula III. The compound of formula I is useful in the treatment of psychotic disorders.
