A process for producing a pyrimidine derivative represented by the following formula: <CHEM> wherein R is an aromatic ring, etc.; X is an oxygen atom, etc.; R<1> , R<2> and R<3> respectively represent a hydrogen atom, etc; and R<9> and R<1><0> respectively represent a halogen atom, etc. which comprises reacting a cyclic compound represented by the following formula: <CHEM> wherein R, X, R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are as defined above with a pyrimidinyltrimethylammonium chloride compound represented by the following formula: <CHEM> wherein R<9> and R<1><0> are as defined above. The above-mentioned pyrimidine derivative can be easily produced according to the process of the present invention.
