This invention relates to an exposure control apparatus for a camera including a photometer (12), a strobe (3), and a calculator (4) which calculates an exposure value, a diaphragm value and a shutter speed in accordance with a photometering measurement made by the photometer. The apparatus comprises a strobe program mode in which, in use, the shutter speed is set within a defined range and in which the diaphragm value is set within a defined range. The apparatus further comprises a program shift means for varying the shutter speed within a range defined by the minimum shutter speed and the strobe synchronization limit speed, and for varying the diaphragm value within a range defined by the minimum diaphragm value and the maximum diaphragm value, without changing the exposure value calculated by the calculating means in the strobe program mode, when the calculated exposure value is above a lower limit exposure value and below an upper limit exposure value.
