The container (1) has in its upper part a peripheral channel (2) containing a column of water (3). The container cover (4) has a peripheral skirt (5) which is engaged in the peripheral channel and is submerged in the water column. The skirt, cover and channel are arranged so that vapour discharge spaces filled with water (e-e'-e'') exist between the skirt and the channel walls (6,7a,7b). The lower part of the skirt has a peripheral rim (8) which is perpendicular to the skirt. The cover is engaged in the peripheral channel with a freedom of vertical movement and is supported by spaced pegs (9) in the channel bottom. The cover and the container are provided with fasteners (10a,10b) and connectors (11) which enable them to be assembled and dismantled.
