The magnetometer (2) is mounted on the side of vehicle (3). Errors may be due to magnetic perturbations, possibly from poor alignment of the magnetometer to a reference (R1) on the vehicle. The theoretical model to correct these errors, is of the form Hc = (A).Hm + a.Hm' + Hp, where Hc is the corrected field, Hm is the measured magnetometer value, Hm' is the derivative of Hm relative to time, varying with angular position of the vehicle, (A) and a are matrices and Hp a field perturbation to be determined, and Hc is the terrestrial reference field in the vehicle. Error vector relationships are defined and matrices determined, to obtain the correction coefficients. The vehicle may be an aircraft.
|
