An improved in-line type electron gun for a color picture tube. In a conventional construction of the electron gun having quadrupole lens for compensating the astigmatism, grids cannot be easily secured to deteriorates the alignment of the gun. In the present invention, circular and elongated hole are alternatively arranged to central and side beam passing holes of one grid and adjacent grid, thereby automatically maintaining the alignment of the gun assembly. <IMAGE>
