The invention relates to a process for producing building elements (1) made of gypsum, which comprises the following steps: preparing a mixture containing a quantity of gypsum particles and a quantity of free water; feeding said mixture to a compression mould; compressing the mixture in the compression mould at a final pressure of between 20 and 60 MPa, a compressed mass being obtained in the process; and unmoulding the compressed mass, characterized in that: the quantity of free water in the mixture is essentially uniformly distributed and amounts to from 1 to 8% by weight, based on the dry solids of the mixture, and in that the step of the compressed mass being unmoulded is followed by the step of the compressed mass being allowed to set. The invention also relates to a building element consisting of compressed gypsum, fabricated by means of said process.

|
