FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: device for operating electrically heated catalyst converter 2 rated at about 0.5 to 10 kW has electric circuit set up of current supply 6, power switch 20, catalyst converter 2, and wiring components 21, 22, 61.62. Power switch 20 is, essentially, common actuating member; catalyst converter 2 is common controlled entity for at least two different closed control loops whose common controlled variable is temperature within catalyst converter 2. Each closed control loop has electronically controlled parts placed in electronic unit 5 incorporating means for checking control loops and selecting that reliable in operation. So, failure of separate components of any loop can be compensated for by switching over to other loop without impairing operating conditions of vehicle and satisfying requirements to exhaust gases.
