The present invention provides a method for providing nutrition to long-term care patients. Pursuant to the present invention, a composition is utilized that can be administered in a solid, semi-solid or liquid form. Irrespective of the form selected, the composition includes a protein source including from approximately 14% to 25% of the caloric distribution of the composition. The composition also includes a carbohydrate source including from approximately 40% to 75% of the caloric distribution of the composition. In an embodiment, the composition includes a fat source including from approximately 0% to 45% of the caloric distribution of the composition. Still further, in certain forms, the composition includes at least 1/2000 of the U.S. RDA vitamins and minerals per calorie of the composition.
