A method and apparatus for realizing safe upgrade of a system are disclosed to solve the problem of high unavailability rate of a device due to the upgrade of the system. The method includes: detecting the configuration state parameter of each of boot partitions recorded in a parameter partition and sifting a single boot partition whose configuration state parameter represents a successful state when the device is started; setting the configuration state parameter of the above sifted boot partition to represent a failure state in the parameter partition, and executing codes for booting up the system stored in the boot partition; and setting the configuration state parameter value of the above sifted boot partition to represent the successful state in the parameter partition when the execution is determined to be successful. Thus, the probability that the device is unavailable due to the upgrade of the system can be reduced significantly, the reliability of the system is improved, the usability of the device is improved, and the system is ensured to be upgraded safely and reliably. |
