PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damages on a surface-treated portion of a roller when the roller is pressed into a pocket of a retainer.SOLUTION: A roller bearing includes a plurality of rollers 3 arranged along a circumferential direction of a bearing ring and a monolithic machined retainer 4 that holds the rollers 3. The retainer 4 has a plurality of pockets 4c along the circumferential direction. Upon accommodating the roller 3 in the pocket 4c, sheet type shims 10, 20 are made to be present between an outer surface of the roller 3 and an inner surface of the pocket 4c, and after the roller 3 is accommodated in the pocket 4c, the shims 10, 20 are pulled out. The roller 3 is subjected to a surface treatment on the outer surface for improving sliding property or for rust prevention, and the shims 10, 20 are applied to the surface-treated portion. The thicknesses t1, t2 of the shims 10, 20, respectively, are 0.05 mm or more, and gaps between the outer surface of the roller 3 and the inner surface of the pocket 4c for allowing the shims 10, 20 to be present are kept to the thicknesses t1, t2 of the shims 10, 20 or more. |
