METHOD OF AND DEVICE FOR DIAGNOSING MISFIRES IN CYLINDERS OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines; detection of misfires. SUBSTANCE: proposed method comes to recording electric signal in high-voltage circuit of ignition system at spark jumping between spark plug electrodes. For this purpose series of separate diagnostic pulses is applied to spark plug of cylinder under checking in process of exhaust of working mixture (fuel-air mixture or combustion products). Voltage of applied signal should provide spark jumping between spark plug electrodes in case of ignition of mixture in cylinder preceding the exhaust stroke or no spark jumping if ignition of mixture in cylinder does not occur. Presence or absence of electric signal in high-voltage circuit of spark plug is recorded and basing on the results obtained, misfire in cylinder is detected. EFFECT: improved reliability of checking; enlarged operating capabilities of device which can be used both in engine and in form of self--contained diagnostic system at service stations.
