Compounds of the formula I in the form of their racemates or enantiomers in which R1 and R2 are, independently of one another, hydrogen or a protective group, and B is a purine or pyrimidine residue or an analogue thereof, can be used as antiviral agents or for preparing biologically active oligonucleotides.
