The method of controlling a peak rate spacer of a multiple asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) traffic applied in the ATM system, which is provided with a peak rate policer (PRP), a virtual channel connection attribute Table (VCAT), a cell buffer, an event scheduler (ES) and a peak rate spacer (PRS) control block using data of a free list(FL), a cell slot queue (CSQ), an output list (OL) and a temporary queue (TQ), includes: the first step (200) of finding whether a cell is arrived every time slot; the second step (201) taking an address of the FL of a free node to connect a node to the TQ and ES, if the cell was arrived after performing the first step (201); the third step (202) of connecting a cell connected to a cell time slot (T) of the ES to the output list, if the cell was not arrived after performing the first step (200); and the fourth step (204) of connecting it to the free list FL or the event scheduler ES according to a state of the output list (OL) to return, after performing the third step (202).
