The valve inlet (1') and outlet (1'') are interconnected by a passage (2) containing a piston (8') which permits fluid flow. In the inlet, an adjustable (9'') coil spring (9) presses the stack (6) of ceramic piezo-electric disks, with interleaved electrodes, against the piston. The inlet communicates centrally (9'',6',11,2) with the valve (3), whose cone-opt., ball - is seated by another adjustable (5) spring (4). An electronic controller (13), using a differential pressure sensor (10), opens the valve at a preset pressure difference through a power unit (14) which applies a voltage across each disk (alternate electrodes being connected in parallel), causing the stack to expand. The motion is transmitted to the valve by either direct or percussive action.
