Adaptive tactile communication aid for deaf and partially deaf persons

The communication aid includes a vibration emitter (12) that is contained in a casing which is small enough to be enclosed by a hand in order to achieve the largest possible tactile transmission surface. The casing also incorporates a signal strength regulator (30), which by means of a rotatable wheel (31) makes it possible to continuously adjust the emitted vibrations from the emitter. The vibrations are adjusted to an amplitude which provides the greatest possible tactile sensitivity to the vibrations, corresponding to the sound within a desired sound frequency interval. The signal strength regulator further incorporates a potentiometer with integrated switch for switching on and off. The potentiometer is mechanically coupled to the wheel, which is incorporated in the casing for manoeuvring of the vibration amplitude. The vibration emitter preferably takes the form of a bone-conducting vibration apparatus.
