Apparatus for measuring the dose of flowable material, preferably liquid, being dispensed comprises a reservoir pot 7 supplied with liquid via feed line 19 and having the surface level of the liquid sensed by two liquid level detectors 27 and 31 which define upper and lower limits of the level of liquid in the pot 7 at the start and finish of a given sequence of dosing operations. A dosing gun 1 is operated to dispense the material 29 by way of a supply line 5 and the number of dispensing doses is counted in order to enable the average dose magnitude to be determined by dividing (i) the quantity defined between the upper and lower liquid levels in the pot 7 by (ii) the counted number of cycles of the gun 1 for dispensing the material 29. The material 29 may for example be liquid compound for lining can ends. A load cell may be used to weigh the reservoir pot and contents, for establishing the magnitude of the batch of dispensed liquid by weight. |
