<p>A modular encoder comprising components adapted for a horizontal arrangement with respect to the shaft of a rotating unit (along the shaft) so as to easily carry out the assembling and mounting of the modular encoder and improve the mounting reliability. Since the modular encoder is elliptically formed, the dimensions thereof can be reduced in the desired direction. When a retainer member is engaged with a fixed member so that the retainer member can be rotated around the shaft of the rotating unit, the aligning of a code plate is done easily.</p> |
