The invention relates to an element (1) which can be inserted into the diskette (or cassette) unit of an EDP device, comprising an interface (8) which is constructed in such a manner that a data transmission between the EDP device and the element (1) can be carried out via the read/write device which exists in any case in the EDP device; to increase the variety of possible applications and uses of the element (1), it is proposed that the element (1) is equipped with a component (2, 12, 13) which is outside the EDP device in the inserted state and which itself comprises EDP components and/or EDP devices and/or is constructed as device for connecting further EDP devices.
