The system uses multiple access time separation with frequency hopping cell transmission. Frequency hopping is performed between mobile radio cells having different re-use factors. The mobile radio transmitter is controlled (C) during a first part of a frame period to transmit the appropriate frequency in the frequency hopping cycle. During a second period, equal to the relative synchronisation error between base stations, transmissions are blocked.
