A hydrogen gas generator as set forth in claim 1 is provided with an electrolytic plate having an uneven surface in contact with water and part of the unevennesses have acute edges, so that the electolysis can be rapidly effected thereat and the efficiency of electrolysis can be improved. A hydrogen gas generator as set forth in claim 2 or 3 contains a dispersion of a far-infrared radiating ceramic powder or tourmaline, so that a cluster of water molecules is atomized to thereby expedite the electrolysis and improve the efficiency of electrolysis. A hydrogen gas generator as set forth in claim 4 contains a dispersion of a microbial antioxidant in the water to be electrolyzed, so that it is prevented from suffering from the deposition of contaminants on the electrolytic plate and the erosion of the plate itself by oxidation and the efficiency of electrolysis is not reduced even after the lapse of time. A hydrogen gas generator as set forth in claim 5 is provided with a circulation route where the water in the tank enters the electrolytic section through a liquid feed pipe while the water in the electrolytic section returns to the tank through a reflow pipe and also provided with driving means for circulating the water in the circulation route, so that the inside of the electolytic chamber can be favorably cooled and hence water can be favorably electrolyzed. A hydrogen gas generator as set forth in claim 6 is provided with an outgassing route comprising a gas inlet, a gas sending pipe, a gas inlet, a tank and an outgassing pipe, so that the water in the electrolytic chamber does not flow back to the tank, even when the gas pressure in the chamber is increased, and hence water can be favorably electrolyzed.
