Novel substituted ethylene compounds useful as drugs, particularly as therapeutic and preventive agents for chronic articular rheumatism and other inflammatory diseases due to immune anomaly. Specifically, substituted ethylene compounds of general formula (I) or medicinally acceptable salts thereof, wherein A is a single bond or a saturated hydrocarbon chain; X is cycloalkyl, substituted phenyl or the like; Y is H or alkyl; Z is an amide linkage, a urethane linkage or the like; R and R are each independently H, halogeno or the like; R is carboxyl or the like; and R is H, halogeno or the like.
