A process recovers water-based paint for re-use in a paint-spraying booth by collecting the overspray in an aqueous rinse which is returned by one or more circuits to the booth. Some of the overspray and rinse is passed through one or more ultra-filtration circuits from which the permeate is removed and returned to the rinse solution. Some or all of the liquid circulating in the last-stage ultra-filtration circuit is added to the water-based paint in its preparation prior to spraying. The novelty is that: (a) A spray test is first conducted under normal operating conditions and paint concentration which is continued until stable operating conditions have been attained, and the permeate in the last-stage ultra-filtration circuit has achieved a constant concentration in the membrane-dependent sections of the paint spraying assembly, and that (b) the received concentrations and concentrations, achieved in the membrane-dependent sections drying the change towards stable conditions and the actual conduct of spray operations, are recorded and (c) the various fluid circuits are each initially charged with fluids whose concentrations are approximately those recorded at (b).
|
