A skimming apparatus (14) for a swimming pool (10) that includes a ladder (12), the skimming apparatus (14) is provided with a bracket (22) to be mounted to a side rail (16) of the ladder (12), the bracket (22) having an offset arm (28) and the skimming apparatus (14) having a beam (32) with a pivot rod (34) pivotally mounted to the end of the offset arm (28) so that when the skimming apparatus (14) is deployed the beam (32) will be blocked by the side rail (16) of the ladder (12). The skimming apparatus (14) has a pair of floats (42) one on each end of the beam (32) and a net (50) which is attached to the beam (32) and the floats (42) forming a pocket through which the water pushed by the current will pass through.
