<p>A power press has an offset prime mover. The press includes a punch (1) and a setting die (12) which are movable relative to each other along a first axis for operating on a workpiece (11) or the like. A prime mover (3, 7, 9a, 9b) is connected to the punch and setting die and is movable along a second axis parallel to the first axis for moving the punch towards and away from the workpiece. A load balancing device (4, 8, 10a, 10b) is provided for balancing bending movements arising as a result of an offset between the first and second axes. The load balancing device acts along a third axis parallel to the first and second axes and located on that side of the second axis remote from the first axis.</p> |
