A rope length identifying method is disclosed by employing a dyed cord in the rope at constant intervals. One of the cords passing through the guide plate (1) is substituted with a dyed cord (2'), which is passed through a hole (7) in the end of the pulling rod (6) of an electromagnet (5) and twined with another cord passing through the lengths sensor (8). So the dyed cord (2') forms a concealed strand (4) and the length sensor (8) detects the number of preset lengths through the other cord (2) and displays on a counter (9). And the pulling rod (6) returns to the initial position by releasing the electromagnet (5) for the dyed cord (2') to be twined concealed in the strand (4).
