The towel is wet-cleaned, being transported between inlet and outlet openings in a housing and trough a bath and drier. The drier can incorporates a wringer (10, 11), and the section of the towel (9) can be immersed briefly in the bath when the transporting mechanism operates. A hot-gas generator can be provided, having a nozzle aimed at the towel oafter this emerges from the bath, and the towel can also be passed over a heated plate, at which the nozzle is aimed to heat it up. The nozzle can be connected to a steam-generator or air-heater.
