A method for the production of a spacer (1), comprising a plurality of spacer elements (2), for the positioning of fuel rods (4) in a nuclear plant, the method comprising the provision of a sheet which comprises a zirconium-based alloy, and the method being characterized in that it also comprises the steps of: subjecting the sheet to a heat treatment which comprises beta -quenching, and subjecting the sheet to a subsequent heat treatment in the alpha -phase temperature region of the zirconium-based alloy.
