The device has a positioning arm (1), on which the component (3) is held and which is pivotable via a bearing arrangement, and an optical beam divider arranged so that the positioning arm can be observed from below and the circuit board (5) can be observed from above. The bearing arrangement is designed so that the positioning arm can be moved from a vertical positioning position into a pivotal motion to shortly above the circuit board. The component can then be lowered into the mounting position with a motion perpendicular to the circuit board and in the same plane.
