FIELD: carbon materials. SUBSTANCE: invention is concerned with production of carbon materials with high volume density, in particular, carbon- carbon composites with multiway fibrous frameworks (n=2,3,4à) and carbon matrix obtained from pitches and tars in carbonization process and subsequent heat treatments. Intermediate product is successively impregnated by molten hydrocarbons and is carbonized in sealed vessel inside high-pressure apparatus where quartz sand is used as pressure- conducting medium. Intermediate product is then removed and graphitized in vacuum. Processes are resumed until material with density 1.95-2.01 g/cu.cm is obtained. According to invention, hydrocarbon layer is placed on the bottom of vessel, intermediate product is put onto this layer, and space between side surfaces of vessel and intermediate product is filled with powdered material whose heat conduction exceeds that of molten hydrocarbons. Particle size of powder does not allow to particles to penetrate into intermediate product pores. In the first impregnation and carbonization process, intermediate product is used made in the form of multiway reinforcing carbon-material framework, e.g. carbon fiber. Pitch is used as hydrocarbons, and graphite powder as powdered material.
