FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: lower ketones are prepared by liquid phase dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols in the presence of stationary catalyst such as metallic nickel or hydrogen activated nickel containing metal or carrier supported nickel in C<SB>12</SB>-C<SB>20</SB>, paraffins which are used as dehydrating agent solvent in the process medium for activation of catalyst and heat carrier. Lower alcohol flow is directed counter or directly to flow of paraffins admitted into reactor on top or below catalyst bed.
