Drive for mechanical press

A flywheel (1) is mounted coaxial to a press drive shaft and a number of drive couplings. These link the flywheel and the drive shaft with different gear ratios. The flywheel is coupled to the drive with a direct drive or with a geared drive. When the press tool is braked, energy is taken up by the flywheel, and is used to provide for peak torque demands of subsequent press cycles. Energy is also stored in the flywheel when the vehicle is braked.
