Calcitonin is dissolved in a sodium chloride solution altered to a pH of 3.5-4.5 using a solution containing citrate and hydrochloric acid. A pharmaceutical composition comprises calcitonin dissolved in a physiologically compatible sodium chloride solution with a pH altered to 3.5-4.5 using a preservative-free solution of citrate and hydrochloric acid. The compositions are applied using a powder dosing device, the mouth of which is coupled to a dosing pump and hermetically sealed.
